PowerSchool Grade Book:
PowerSchool is an online program that allows you to view your child's grades and attendance records. The program is free! To get started, all you have to do is log in to PowerSchool using your student's username and password. https://my.ncedcloud.org
I try to post grades as soon as possible after an assignment has been turned in. Sometimes grades don't get posted right away...Don't worry...Our class takes part in a lot of group and individual projects, that take place over weeks. When the project is complete the grade will be posted. Also, if your child is absent, they may need to make up work (extra time will be given, usually up to five days). If you have any questions after login to PowerSchool: just email me, send me a note in your child's agenda, or call the school.
Student Binders:
Fourth grade places emphasis on developing responsibility and organizational skills. To help students with these skills, they will be required to bring their "agenda" to and from school each day. They will also be required to bring the following:
- Homework folder
- Agenda with reading log (to be initialed)
- Math Journal
- Reading Material(s)
Each student will be given a student agenda to use on a daily basis. Homework will be written in your child's agenda. Your are asked to review their agenda and homework to assure that all assignments are complete. The agenda is another great way for us to keep in touch; feel free to include notes to the teacher in the agenda. Students are to have their agenda initialed every night.
Reading Logs:
Students are expected to read a minimum of 30 minutes each night. This nightly reading should be recorded in your child's agenda. Your child will also read independently for 30 minutes in class. It is important for your child to read in order to build endurance reading longer selections. Your child should bring home a chapter book or a non-fiction book on his/her reading level each night.
Wednesday Folders "Gator Folder":
Student work and important notes will be sent home in a special folder every Wednesday. Items that need to be returned will be marked accordingly, all other items should be removed from the folder and kept at home. Gator Folders need to be checked, signed, and returned the next day. Please ask your child to show you this folder every Wednesday.
Attendance:
If your child is absent, please send a note explaining his or her absence when he or she returns to school. Until a note is sent in, your child's absence will be marked as unexcused. Students are responsible for getting their missed assignments and making up their work.
Home/School Communication:
Notes and reminders will be sent on a regular basis. I use a variety of methods in order to communicate effectively with parents. Some forms of communication include: notes, phone calls, email, and Bloomz (similar to Facebook but private to those in our class group).
If you have a concern you would like to discuss, please write me a note and I will call you during my planning time or after school to set up a conference. You may also call and leave a message for me at 444-5150. In addition, you can email me at [email protected] .
Volunteers:
Volunteers are needed at various times of the year. Please remember that you must go through the volunteer screening process (orientation, paperwork) before you are able to go on any field trip or volunteer in the classroom. Complete the online volunteer application here.
Scholastic Book Club:
Book club order forms go home each month. Book orders are an excellent way to build up your child's library fairly inexpensively. Please do not feel obligated to participate each time. I usually send 3-4 forms home each time provide you with variety. Please make the check(s) payable to the Scholastic Book Club. Send all checks and money orders back in a labeled baggie or envelope or place your order online using our class code: FL48M
